About MIT :
The Madras Institute of Technology began its journey of gifting education in 1949 with its eminent founder Shri.C.Rajam, a genius who made MIT to be the first college to offer subjects like Aeronautical, Automobile and Instrumentation Engineering in India. The mechanical stream was further widened with the offer of specialized courses like Production Engineering and Rubber and Plastic Technology. MIT was merged with Anna University in 1978 .For sixty years, MIT has been a proud forerunner in producing esteemed personalities like Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, genius like Mr.Sujatha and many more. The Madras Institute of Technology has developed into an important hub of engineering education and has earned an excellent reputation both in India and abroad. MIT had many awards to its crown which includes an award for the Best Overall Performance, awarded by Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) during the year 1999.
About PT
The Department of Production Technology began its venture with three year. B.Tech Production Engineering programme (for B.Sc graduates) in the year 1977 with an intake of 20 students and M.E programme in the year 1993. The dept offers B.Tech in Production Engineering & M.E in manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering. It also offers part time UG programs in the areas of Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering & PG programme in Manufacturing Engineering. For the first time in our country a PG programme in M.E Mechatronics was started in the year 1999 with an intake of 15 students.Our department was awarded A5 grade in 1997-98 (Highest grade for 5 years) by the National board of Accreditation. The department has organized 9 national level seminars and 3 summer/winter schools and a number of short term programs in the areas of low cost automation CNC machines & programming and fluid power automations.
The mission of our department is to develop technically competent, socially committed and disciplined manufacturing engineers with creative ability, innovative thinking and managerial skill to manufacture quality products for the benefit of the mankind.
